This Universal Changing Table Provides Safe, Hygienic Restroom Access

July 10, 2024
Height-adjustable UCTs are now required for public establishments by the International Building Code as of 2024.

Foundations Worldwide introduces the Ascent Universal Changing Table, an easy-to-use and low-cost changing solution for people with disabilities and their caregivers. Height-adjustable universal changing tables (UCTs) provide safe, hygienic access to public restrooms for people who aren’t able to use standard handicapped accessible restroom facilities. They’re also mandated by the International Building Code as of 2024 in public establishments like shopping malls, stadiums, schools, highway rest stops and service plazas.

Ascent features a proprietary, direct-attached actuator for a smooth, lag-free experience and minimal upkeep compared to chain-driven models. It also has an automatic retracting feature that stops operation and reverses direction when an obstruction (such as a wheelchair) is detected, while a battery backup ensures safe use during power outages. The bacteria-resistant changing surface has no fasteners to eliminate cracks and crevices where dirt and germs can accumulate. Ascent is also one of the few changing tables with an IPX6 water ingress protection rating. It supports a safe working load of up to 500 pounds of weight and height adjustment from 16 to 39 inches.
